Fixing a patient's camera or microphone

The common reasons a patient can't be seen or heard, and what to tell them.

MedCall shows patients step-by-step instructions when something blocks their camera, but it helps to know the usual causes.

“Camera access is blocked”

The patient pressed Don’t allow when the browser asked.

  • iPhone: Settings → Safari (or the browser they’re using) → Camera and Microphone → Allow. Then reload the page.
  • Android: tap the padlock or ⓘ in the address bar → Permissions → allow Camera and Microphone. Then reload.
  • Computer: click the camera icon in the address bar, allow both, then reload.

“Your camera is in use”

Another app has the camera — Zoom, Teams, FaceTime or another browser tab. Close it and tap Try again.

They opened it inside Facebook, Instagram or another app

Those in-app browsers often block the camera. MedCall shows a warning. Ask them to open the link in Safari or Chrome instead.

You can’t hear them

Ask them to check their phone isn’t on silent with the volume down, and that Bluetooth earbuds aren’t connected to something else. If the problem is on your side, see Audio or video problems.
