You can add up to two more people to a consult, so a call can have up to 4 people: you, the patient and two others. For example, a parent or carer, an interpreter, or another clinician.
Add someone
- In the call, press the People button in the control bar.
- Under Add someone, type their name. Add their role too if it helps, for example “Jo Lee (interpreter)”.
- Choose how to send their link:
- Text: enter their Australian mobile.
- Email: enter their email address.
- Copy link: copy the link and send it yourself.
- They’ll appear in the call when they open the link and press Join consult. Nothing to download.
You can add people before the patient arrives. Nobody else connects until you’re in the call yourself.
What everyone sees
- Everyone sees and hears everyone else. On a computer people sit side by side, and on a phone they stack.
- Only you can add or remove people. The patient and guests can’t invite anyone.
- Guests don’t see the consult chat. Chat stays between you and the patient.
- Each guest gets their own link. They never see the patient’s link.
Remove someone
Press People, then Remove next to their name. They drop out of the call within a few seconds, and their link stops working. If you need them back, add them again to send a fresh link.
Privacy
Group calls work the same way as one-to-one calls. Video and audio go directly between the browsers of the people in the call and are end-to-end encrypted. Nothing is recorded. See Security and privacy.
Tips
- Phones work best on Wi-Fi or good 4G/5G. Each extra person adds another video stream, so MedCall lowers the picture quality slightly to keep the call smooth.
- If someone’s video freezes, ask them to turn their camera off and back on, or to rejoin from their link.
